The hardness of plastics is determined differently depending on the type of material. OMPG offers both the classic ball indentation hardness and the Shore hardness measurement for elastomers. Many surface tests are also associated with hardness.

Scratch tests

Various scratch tests are required, particularly for automotive applications. The spectrum ranges from Erichsen and Oesterle bars to abrasion and scuffing tests. In some cases, entire scratch grids are applied mechanically using the Erichsen Model 430P testing machine and the color change is then determined.

Lacquer tests

Lacquer tests combine climate storage, exposure and chemical tests (cream or cleaning agent resistance) with various adhesion tests. Cross-cut, cross-cut and scratch tests are used to assess paint adhesion.
