Mechanical testing

Back
[Translate to English:]

Tensile testing, bending testing, compression testing and impact testing - OMPG has developed into a competent partner for testing plastics and composites. We can offer all the standard test methods specified in the relevant data sheets.

In the area of mechanical properties, this concerns

  • Tensile tests (various standards)
  • Strand tensile tests for reinforcing materials
  • Bending tests (various standards)
  • Compression tests (various standards)
  • Various impact strength tests

Tests according to Charpy (DIN EN ISO 179), IZOD (DIN EN ISO 180) or Dynstat (DIN 53435) are possible from -40°C.

The tensile and bending tests can be carried out in a temperature chamber at temperatures from -40°C to max. 150°C. Temperatures from -40°C are possible for impact tests.

Plastics

The behavior of components under various forms of stress such as tension, compression, bending or impact is largely determined by the mechanical properties of the materials used.

A broad portfolio of test methods for determining the mechanical material properties and many other analysis tasks is available to you for this purpose. Whether thermoplastic, thermoset or elastomer, you will find testing options for the full spectrum with us. We can also support you in the production of test specimens from granulates, semi-finished products or finished parts.

Textiles

The mechanical deformation behavior of a textile characterizes its resistance to mechanical stresses. Depending on the dynamics of this stress, textiles can behave differently. Combinations of these stresses usually occur during the processing and use of textiles. It is therefore important to know this deformation behavior.

OMPG's service portfolio covers mechanical tests on individual fibers, yarns, textile fabrics (woven fabrics, scrims, knitted fabrics, nonwovens) and composite materials (coated textiles, carpets).

We mainly test according to national DIN and EN standards as well as international ISO standards, but we also offer a wide range of other services and tests according to automotive standards as well as ASTM, BS, SAE etc., for which we will be happy to provide you with a quote on request.

Material properties textiles

OMPG's equipment allows the testing of single fibers, yarns and textile fabrics (woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwovens) as well as composite materials (coated textiles, carpets).

Processing tests are possible on spunbond, wetlaid and needled nonwoven systems. There is a long tradition in the processing of natural fiber products.

Composite materials

Under the headings of “lightweight construction” and “resource efficiency”, a large number of composite materials and manufacturing processes have been developed in recent decades. These are widely used, particularly in the automotive, wind energy and rail vehicle industries. For all these applications, a broad and well-founded knowledge of the mechanical properties of the materials used is indispensable.

In addition to general tests under tensile, compressive, bending or impact loads, OMPG can also carry out tests to characterize fibre-matrix adhesion. We are no strangers to both thermoset and thermoplastic matrix systems. We can also support you in the production of test specimens from semi-finished or finished parts.
